WHA EVENTS

The Wills Hall Association arranges a variety of annual events as well as "one-off" occasions. All members are entitled to book places and all events are also advertised to current residents. Lectures are free of charge, but catered occasions attract as small a fee as the Association can manage. All events are to some extent subsidized, and the WHA does its best to keep costs for current students as low as possible.

The picture at the top of this page is of the most recent former Chancellor of the University Baroness Hale and the current Chancellor Sir Paul Nurse chatting before dinner at the summer reunion in 2017.

During the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020-2021 all WHA face-to-face events have been suspended. Plans for virtual / online events for summer 2021 are being developed and will be advertised here.

Reunion Weekend (Summer)

Along with other Hall Associations and the University's Alumni Association, the WHA organizes an annual reunion weekend. The emphasis is on re-connecting with contemporaries and other friends. There is usually a formal dinner on Saturday, a Chapel service and organ recital on Sunday morning, lunch on Sunday in the dining hall and a choice of excursions or visits.

Graves.jpg
Arthur Graves Lecture

In memory of the late  Col. Arthur Graves, fifth Warden of Wills Hall, the WHA arranges an annual lecture. The topic is usually one linked to Graves's own interests (he was a geographer, a dedicated teacher, and closely involved with the OTC).

London Reception (Autumn)

As autumn begins to turn towards winter, we usually meet in London at one of the clubs (most recently the RAC) for a drinks reception with canapés and a few updates on the activities of the WHA and the Hall. The new JCR President is always invited to address the guests and report on life in Hall.

Bristol Reception (Spring)

In years past, the Warden invited members of the WHA to a drinks reception in Downside House in the spring of each year. This was sometimes associated with other events, such as careers advice for current students from old members. Nowadays the Bristol Reception is sometimes linked to the Graves Lecture and held in the Dame Monica Wills Chapel.
